BAWN-(Hollywood) Regina King is now an Oscar winner. This Sunday night, the actress picked up the award for best supporting actress for her turn in Barry Jenkins’s stirring James Baldwin adaptation, If Beale Street Could Talk.
King has has appeared in an impressive lineup of films including in the John Singleton films Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, and others include A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Enemy of the State, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and many others.
Film industry pundits believe that the actress will be favorite to take the category throughout this awards season, after covenanting other awards this year, including various critics’ choice awards, the Golden Globe, and an Independent Spirit Awards.
“To be standing here representing one of the greatest artists of our time, James Baldwin—it’s a little surreal,” she said at the start of her speech. “James Baldwin birthed this baby, and Barry, you nurtured her. You surrounded her with so much love and support.”
The award is one more example of Regina King’s Hollywood “Star Power,”-once again proving that she is one most in demand actresses in Hollywood.
